ABOUT Serena
Serena Geroe has been playing guitar for over a decade. She was the 2019 Next Generation Jazz Orchestra Guitarist, and performed with NGJO at the 62nd Annual Monterey Jazz Festival. Her most recent project was with her band Wave5, which released its first EP, The New Look, in 2020. Serena's other recent honors include 2019 National YoungArts Foundation Winner in Jazz/Guitar and member of the 2019 YoungArts LA Jazz Combo, 2018 Brubeck Institute Jazz Colony, 2018 Grammy Jazz Camp finalist and a 2018 full tuition scholarship from the Berklee School of Music for their five week summer program. Serena was the youngest and only high school age soloist selected to play at the 2018 Oregon Coast Jazz Party and at the 2017 Women in Jazz "She's Got Swing" concert at Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego. During her high school years she was guitarist for the funk big band Ambassadors of Soul, and can be heard on their CDs Doin' Our Thing, Keepin' It Real!, and Just Make It Funky , which was nominated for a 2018 San Diego Music Award in the category of best local album. In addition to leading her own trio, Serena has performed as guitarist for Holly Hofmann's Four Women Only band, as well as with the UMass Amherst Jazz Orchestra, the Smith College Jazz Orchestra, and the MiraCosta Oceanside Jazz Orchestra. Serena was the 2016 Cal Poly All-State Festival Jazz Band guitarist and the 2015 California All State Junior High Jazz Band guitarist and has studied and performed with the Young Lions Jazz Conservatory and the International Academy of Jazz San Diego.
